HDS event for a key leadership team at NATS Ltd, facilitated by Tony Whybrow (Director, Franklin Whybrow Consulting Ltd)
Alex Bristol, General Manager, Operational Strategy & Investment (OS&I) at NATS Ltd asked Franklin Whybrow Consulting to deliver an HDS event for his leadership team.
The key objectives were to:
•Use the Hogan Development Survey (HDS) to provide feedback to each team member on where their leadership strengths might emerge as dysfunctional behaviour when under stress or pressure
• Facilitate a group session to share and discuss these strengths and potential ‘derailers’ to support their continuing development as a high performing team
• Discuss the ‘dark side’ mix across the team, identifying any common areas of challenge which might therefore present a greater risk
A ninety minute 1:1 feedback session took place with each of the 11 team members during the two weeks before the team event, using 16PF as the ‘normal’ personality tool to provide context and balance alongside the HDS ‘dark side’. As a result of the 1:1 feedback, each team member was prepared to participate fully and openly in the half day team session where everyone shared and discussed their HDS ‘high scores’, talked about which elements did and did not ‘ring true’ for them and exchanged constructive, supportive feedback.
After the event, Alex Bristol sent the following message:
‘Thanks once again for an excellent session – not an easy challenge to get a fairly large bunch of people to open up like that and share their dark sides: I knew you would be able to make it work and to make it interesting enough for everyone all the way through – well done. The feedback since then has been very positive and I am very glad we did it, but I wouldn’t have trusted anyone else to facilitate it as well as you.’
Peter Harding, NATS HR Business Partner, added:
‘Can I also thank you for the immensely professional and competent way you handled the whole Hogan exercise. I honestly believe it was an experience that will stay in our minds for a long period to come but more importantly, I think it was extremely valuable to each and every one of us and will provide a most useful insight to us all, without anyone receiving a single ego scare. I can now appreciate, first hand, why you are held in such high esteem within NATS.’
